I would like to introduce any who do not know her, to the fabulous books by Bertrice Small. She has writen 47 books total and of that, 38 are considered Historic Romances. Since the day 5 years ago when I picked up "Skye O'Malley" in a used book store, I was hooked!  A sweeping epic story took me away to the court of the great Queen Elizabeth I in 16th century England and far accross the sea to exotic ports.  I fell in love with the characters and the writing style.  I could see thier faces, here their voices and smell the food (Bea has a way of writing about food, don't read hungry!) The magic continued through all 12 books in the Skye O'Malley series. I was introduced to her children, brother, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I cried and laughed with them.  When Skye passed away into the pages of history, I felt as though I had lost a great friend.

After reading the O'Malley books, I turned to The Friarsgate Inheritance series.  There are 4 books. They Start with "Rosamund" and we are swept back in time to the court of the infamous Henry the VIII of England. The first 2 books follow Rosamund on her adventures in life and love. This series takes place in both England and Scotland, as Rosamund's home is in the border lands. Court intrigue, handsome rogues and adventure abound! You will fall in love with Rosamund's outlandish cousin Sir Thomas who is also a truly vivid character.

The 2nd two books in the series are about Rosamund's daughters and are equaly as exciting as the first two.  Many authors lose steem in long book series, but Bertice Small has the ability to keep it fresh and new with every page.

There are several stand alone books as well. Most of them do in some way connect to other characters mentioned or slightly introduced in one or both series. I would recomend reading "The Kadin" only after reading the Rosamund books.  If you read them, you will see why, so just trust me.

So If you have a passion for historic romance give these books a shot and I promise, you will not be sorry.  Enjoy! and happy reading, prepare to be swept away.

I'd also suggest Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters.
